FORBESGANJ (ARARIA): Following public outrage over the TV footage of a police jawan stomping on the body of a man injured in police firing here on Friday till his death, the Bihar police have got into a damage-control exercise and to salvage its image.
Araria SP Garima Malick confirmed on Sunday that the guilty home guard jawan, Sunil Kumar Yadav, has been arrested.
A case under Section 302 of IPC has been lodged against him.
Home secretary Amir Subhani was told at his press conference here on Saturday how a protester was lynched by armed cops in full public view. He had then demanded the footage from the TV camera crew before taking action against the guilty cop.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged against more than 1,000 villagers of Bhajanpur who allegedly went on rampage, torched machines and dismantled the concrete fence of the upcoming starch and glucose factory of Auro Sundram International Private Limited, while demanding a road to their village through the unit’s plot, according to Araria SP. More than three dozen persons, including 27 cops and a magistrate, were reportedly injured in the armed clashes between the villagers and the policemen, culminating in firing.
Former Union minister of state and senior JD (U) leader Taslimuddin has alleged that police firing took place as the authorities had kowtowed to businessmen. He demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed in police firing.
